Neither word is ideal in it’s definition of pre-packaged functionality, but lately I’ve seen far too many people confuse the two as interchangeable. It’s not just a case of semantics either, it’s a statement of what we can aim to achieve against public perception.

I like free software, and I like open source software. I think without both of these the leaps we’ve made in the last 10 years would not have happened. But nor do I think everything should be free (at least until my rent and food is free also). And it’s this stance that has made me really question the restrictive and overbearing use of the GPL.

While I have only been on the job market for 3 days, I think it’s safe to say that the biggest issue to finding IT work is… the recruiter.

Oh, and I’m confident that this post will make some folks unhappy, and possibly I should include the ever lovely HR department in that bracket too.
